Exponent Rules Calculator

Simplify expressions using the Product, Quotient, and Power of a Power rules.

Concept Overview

Exponent rules (or laws of exponents) are essential shortcuts for simplifying expressions involving powers. These rules allow you to combine and manipulate variables and numbers with exponents efficiently.

Product Rule

When multiplying two powers with the same base, keep the base and add the exponents.
Example: x² * x³ = x⁡

Quotient Rule

When dividing two powers with the same base, keep the base and subtract the exponents.
Example: x⁡ / x² = x³

Power of a Power

When raising a power to another power, keep the base and multiply the exponents.
Example: (x²)³ = x⁢

Zero Exponent

Any non-zero base raised to the power of zero is always 1.
Example: 5⁰ = 1, x⁰ = 1
