A one-step equation is an algebraic equation that can be solved in a single mathematical step using an inverse operation. The goal is always to isolate the variable (usually x) on one side of the equal sign.
Whatever operation you perform on one side of the equation, you must perform the exact same operation on the other side to keep the equation balanced.
To undo an operation, use its opposite: Addition undoes Subtraction, and Multiplication undoes Division (and vice versa).
